To provide a raindrop sensing apparatus that can sense an amount of rainfall with a high sensitivity.
The raindrop sensing apparatus 1 has an emission section 2 for irradiating light and a light reception section 3 for receiving illumination light. A pair of light transmission plates 7 for transmitting light is provided between the emission section 2 and the light reception section 3 and is arranged in parallel with a given gap 12. At the upper side of the light transmission plate 7, a number of raindrop introducing boards 10 are arranged side by side with a given interval. A gap formed among the raindrop introducing boards 10 is arranged to communicate with the gap 12 formed by the light transmission plate 7. By this sort of parallel arrangement structure of the light transmitting plate 7, raindrops passing between the emission section 2 and the light reception section 3 pass through the gap 12 in the light transmitting boards 7, thus expanding the sectional area of the raindrops. Therefore, the raindrops can be surely detected by the sensing sections of the emission section 2 and the light reception section 3.
