A lateral pair of cameras 12R and 12RT is moved in a direction orthogonal to the direction from the cameras 12R and 12L to the subject P to gain a lateral pair of images. The subject distance Q is determined every movement to calculate a measurement data showing the relation between the moving distance and the subject distance, and the measurement data is compared with a sampling data showing the relation between the moving distance and the subject distance including the quantization error, and the subject distance corresponding to the closest sampling data is taken as the true substance distance.
