To provide a Rankine cycle system which is capable of efficient energy recovery by suppressing losses resulting upon changeover between the stoppage and operation of a Rankine cycle, and a control method for the system.
The Rankine cycle system comprises the Rankine cycle 30A which includes a pump 32 that pressure transfers a medium flowing out of a first heat dissipator 11, a heater 30 that heats the medium transferred from the pump 32, and an expander 100 that expands the vapor medium from the heater 30 to convert the pressure energy of the medium into mechanical kinetic energy. The system also has a controller 40 which changes the operational state of the Rankine cycle 30A from stoppage to operation and vice versa. The controller 40 retards a change in an operating state of the expander 100 relative to a change in the same of the pump 32 when changing the operational state of the Rankine cycle 30A.
