To provide an apparatus capable of rapidly cooling hot milk milked from a cow for obtaining tasty milk while suppressing proliferation of bacteria.
The amount of ice capable of cooling the amount of milk from 35-4°C is made by a freezer 2, and an ice heat storage tank 1 is provided for containing cold water of from 2-4°C, and further a predetermined amount of cooling water is circulated from the ice heat storage tank 1 to a plate cooler 9. The milk is received in a metering tank 13 having a liquid level meter 19, and a predetermined amount of the milk is sent from the metering tank 13 to the plate cooler 9 from the metering tank 13 with a milk feeding pump 15 and is cooled to 4°C. A flow rate adjusting valve 20 is provided on a milk discharge tube 18 located on the discharge side of the plate cooler 9 to adjust the amount of the milk supplied to the cooler 9 and hence the cooling temperature of the milk is kept at 4°C.
