Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable a jarosite-containing residue to be reprocessed by the most economical method to provide a residue that can be supplied directly to another use without the need for disposal by stirring the jarosite-containing residue and a zinc sulfide-containing concentrate in an autoclave together with a dilute sulfuric acid containing free sulfuric acid, dissolving substantially the iron and zinc contents of the residue and the zinc sulfidecontaining concentrate, precipitat ing iron in hematite form from this solution, separating sulfur from solids, and supplying the residue to another application. CONSTITUTION: A jarosite-containing residue and a zinc sulfide-containing concentrate are stirred inside an autoclave at an oxygen partial pressure of at least 100kPa and at 130 to 170 deg.C, together with a dilute sulfuric acid containing 40 to 100g/L of free sulfuric acid, the iron and zinc contents of the residue and the zinc sulfate-containing concentrate are substantially dissolved, and the solution is separated from solids and introduced into a leaching circulation path for zinc electrolysis so as to precipitate iron in hematite form and to separate sulfur separated from the solids, the residue being supplies to another application.
