PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for a trial operation by the operator to set various parameters in a proper read mode.
CONSTITUTION: In order to obtain a proper read mode for an original in the case of reading the original by the picture reader, the picture reader reads the original in advance and the proper read mode such as an original size, a threshold level, and contrast is set based on the read data. When the data of the proper parameter such as the threshold level cannot be acquired by one scanning, the original is scanned repetitively. After the controller of the picture reader sets the proper read mode for an original, the original is read by a read sensor in the set mode and the read picture data is transferred to a host computer side.
