Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain readily soluble carboxymethyl cellulose for glaze dispersion completing dissolution in a short time without occurrence of an undissolved lump of powder when it is added.
SOLUTION: Carboxymethyl cellulose having the following required conditions is used: (1) It is treated with glyoxal. (2) The pH of an aqueous 1% solution is in a range of 7.0-9.5. (3) All of it is possible to pass through a sieve of 40 mesh and more than 10% of it remains on a sieve smaller than 40 mesh and larger than 200 mesh. (4) The degree of etherification is in a range of 0.5-1.2. (5) The viscosity of an aqueous 1% solution is in a range of 50-4,000 mpa.s.
