To miniaturize a reading apparatus without deteriorating its reading performance.
In a bar code reader 100, scanning light is generated with a polygon mirror 40 based on the laser light emitted from a laser light source 30, reflected light given by radiating the generated scanning light on a bar code is detected with a light detector 60, thus the identification information of the bar code is read out. A concave mirror 10 which introduces the reflected light reflected from the bar code into the light detector 60 is turnable, the supporting body 21 of a laser light deflection mirror 20 which deflects the laser light emitted from the laser light source 30 toward the polygon mirror 40 is so composed to serve also as the rotating shaft of the concave mirror.
