To provide a compact, light-weight sensor that can be added without largely changing the entire constitution when the loss of the reagent in an automatic analyzer is monitored.
This device is constituted of a light source 21, a light receiving part 22 and a flow cell 23. When reagent is present in a cavity part 24 in the flow cell 23, the light from the light source reaches the light receiving part 22. When the reagent is not present in the cavity part, that is to say, when air is present, the light from the light south 21 is reflected from the wall surface of the cavity part 24 and does not reach the light receiving part 22. Therefore, the presence or absence of the reagent can be monitored by the change in light received by the light receiving part 22.
