To provide a rear body structure of an automobile capable of enhancing the rigidity of the rear body by transmitting efficiently the load applied to the body through a damper member.

The rear body structure of the automobile is equipped with a left and a right rear side frame 2 installed under a rear floor panel 5 in such a way as arranged in the fore-and-aft direction of the body and a rear cross member 3 set over between the rear side frames 2. The damper member 40 of a rear suspension 4 is supported by the rear cross member 3. Further a reinforcing cross member 7 is installed extending along the automobile width direction, with the two ends joined with a body side wall 6, and arranged confronting the two end parts of the rear cross member 4 in such a way as pinching the rear floor panel 5.
