PURPOSE: To set a toe-in condition at the time of braking by shifting a lower virtual supporting point derived from a trailing arm and a lower arm, and a virtual axis of a kingpin vertically and toward outside in the width direction of a vehicle relative to a vertical line passing a rear wheel, in an independent suspension type suspension device.
CONSTITUTION: A virtual kingpin axis K is set to be shifted by a distance l3 from the central surface of a rear wheel 2 toward outside in the width direc tion of a vehicle. Consequently, the foot brake is stepped in to apply a braking force F to the central point C of the ground surface of the rear wheel 2, thereby moment F × l3 is produced around the virtual kingpin axis K on the central surface to rotate the rear wheel 2 around the virtual kingpin axis K in a toe-in direction G. Likewise at the time of engine brake, the rear wheel is rotated in the toe-in direction G. In both cases, the moment is F × l3, and the toe-angle changing characteristics become approximately identical. According to this constitution, under both of the brakings the toe-in can be set and the changing characteristic of the toe angle can be set identical.
