Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver suitable for preventing the occurrence of an error in the demodulation of an optical signal in optical communication and an amplifier suitable for that receiver.
SOLUTION: Concerning an optical receiver 100, an optical signal is optic/ electric-converted by a photodiode 200, the optic/electric-converted received signal is amplified by a preamplifier 300, the average level of the amplified signal is detected by an average level detecting circuit 500, the amplified level of the amplified signal is compared with the average level of that amplified signal and when the amplified signal is higher than the average level, a high level signal is outputted but when the amplified signal is lower than the average level, a low level signal is outputted. Besides, when the low level signal is inputted from an output deciding circuit 600, the average level detecting circuit 500 outputs a prescribed voltage value as the average level of the amplified signal but when the high level signal is inputted from the output deciding circuit 600, with the prescribed voltage value as an initial value, the detection of the average level of the amplified signal is started.
