To provide a receiver and a terminal device where the terminal device side can grasp the receiver's status of broadcast reception before an application is activated on the receiver side.SOLUTION: A receiver comprises a tuner unit, an application execution unit, a terminal cooperation unit, a tuner control unit, and an application control unit. The application execution unit executes an application for broadcast communication cooperation. The terminal cooperation unit receives from a terminal device an application activation command which includes application identification information for identifying an application and channel selection information for channel selection of broadcast signals. The tuner control unit controls the tuner unit to perform channel selection of a specific broadcast signal on the basis of information on an organization service, a broadcast system, and broadcast media included in the channel selection information. The application control unit activates the application identified with the application identification information so as to be executed by the application execution unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
