PURPOSE: To set a squelch level simply with high accuracy by providing a means displaying a squelch level in relation to a reception signal level and a means comparing the reception signal level and the squelch level and muting the output in response to the result of comparison.

CONSTITUTION: In setting a squelch level, the display location of a display element 16b is controlled by an up-pulse, down-pulse of a rotary encoder 17 while observing the lighting state of the display elements 16a, 16b of a display device 16, the level is set to a desired level. A comparator circuit 20 compares the reception signal level with the squelch level. Then the comparator circuit 20 controls the switching of a switch 7 in response to the result of comparison. For example, the comparison output of the comparator 20 opens the switch 7 to cut off a signal path from the detection circuit 6 to a low frequency amplifier circuit 8 when the reception signal level, that is, the output level of a shift register 13 is lower than the squelch level, that is, the output level of the shift register 18. That is, the reception output is muted.
