PURPOSE: To improve action speed in a scanning, a seek action, etc., by comparing the PI code of a presently receiving broadcasting with the PI code of a broadcasting to newly receive and preventing this broadcasting from being received when the PI codes are the same.

CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer 3 executes the comparison of the PI codes contained by RDS data from an RDS decoder 2. That is, the PI code of a presently receiving broadcasting program is compared with the PI code of a program of the broadcasting to be received next by switching a frequency. When these PI codes are the same, they are the same program, therefor, the microcomputer 3 controls a tuner 1, does not receive the broadcasting of this frequency, switches to the next frequency and receives another broadcasting. Thus, the scanning and a seek action can be made speedy.
