PURPOSE: To obtain solid lubricants used in a recirculating powder lubricant delivery system having excellent oxidation stability at high temp. by microencapsulating a specific solid lubricant by an aq. system having thermally and oxidatively stable inorg. resin.
CONSTITUTION: A solid lubricant having oxidation stability up to about 1,500°F (815.6°C) is obtained by microencapsulating a solid lubricant selected from the group consisting of MoS2, graphite and graphite represented by the formula; (CFx)n (X is about 0.25-1 or more and n is an unknown number) by an aq. system having a thermally and oxidatively stable inorg. resin (e.g. polymeric alkali metal silicate). By microencapsulating the powdery lubricant as mentioned above, the lubricant is increased in thermal and oxidative stability and can be used in a recirculating powder lubricant decomposition system and becomes effective for the lubrication of ceramic and metal as well as ceramic and ceramic interfaces like the interior of a high temp. engine.
