The reclining chair includes a support base 8, a chair seat part 4 rotatably coupled at its forward portion to the support base, a substantially vertically disposed coil spring 56 provided adjacent the forward portion of the seat part 4 and between the seat part 4 and the support base 8, with the ends of the coil spring rotatably coupled to the seat part 4 and the support base 8, a device for pivoting one end of the coil spring 56 about the other end of the coil spring 56, and an offset crank for driving the device.
