Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a recognizing device which can easily recognize the traveling of a vehicle in a traffic congestion based on only the traveling speed of the vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: The speed VSP of a vehicle is detected (a), and the average speed VSPAVE of the vehicle is calculated in the unit time as a 1st parameter (b). Then the square value σ2 of the standard deviation is calculated as a 2nd parameter for the speed VSP in the time unit (c), and the stationary state of the vehicle is detected based on the speed VSP (d). The rate RTS of the stationary time is calculated as a 3rd parameter in the unit time (e). Then the grade value showing the likelihood of the traffic snarl is calculated by means of a fuzzy membership function and based on the 1st-3rd parameters, and this grade value is compared with the prescribed value for decision whether the vehicle is traveling in a traffic congestion or not.
