To provide a recorder which is driven by an AC adaptor or a battery wherein recorder inside information such as an ink residual quantity or a remaining battery power is displayed without power supply to the apparatus.

The recorder operates through power supply from either a battery or an AC power source, and comprises: a semiconductor switch provided in an input part of power supply; a first switch for operating on and off of power; a second switch for controlling on and off of a display means; and a control means which performs a predetermined operation by starting power supply from the power supply source after the semiconductor switch is turned on, when power is turned on by an operation of the first switch. The control means turns on the semiconductor switch by an operation of the second switch and starts supplying power to the recorder, when power is not supplied from the power supply source, and makes the display means display the recorder inside information without performing the predetermined operation.
