To reduce variation in thickness of an ink layer at a boundary between bands, in the formation of a background on a recording material by band-recording.
A recording apparatus includes: a recording head 15 discharging a background UV ink C1 through each of nozzles 7 of nozzle arrays 5; a conveying device 3 intermittently conveying the recording material P by a band-feeding amount D; a carriage 17 which reciprocates mounted with the recording head 15; and an ultraviolet light irradiation section 19 composed of LED arrays 55 which are arranged side by side beside the recording head 15 in the moving direction B and irradiate the background UV ink C1 discharged from the recording head 15 with the ultraviolet light E to harden the ink C1; wherein band-recording is performed by the intermittent conveyance by the band-feeding amount D and the ink discharge from the nozzles 7 of the nozzle arrays 5. The conveying device 3 is configured to feed the recording material in such a manner that the boundaries 49 of the bands 47 adjacent to each other in the conveying direction and formed on the recording material, may overlap each other.
