The recording apparatus includes: the carriage 2 on which a recording head 3 is mounted; a motor 7 that drives the carriage 2 in a scanning direction; a position detection part 61 that detects a position of the carriage 2 to output a position signal showing a detected result; a speed detection part 62 that detects the driving speed of the carriage 2 to output a speed signal showing a detected result; a periodic signal generation part 65 that generates and outputs a periodic signal in accordance with the position of the carriage 2 shown in the position signal; a periodic signal modulation part 66 that modulates and outputs the periodic signal outputted from the periodic signal generation part 65 in accordance with the driving speed of the carriage 2 shown in the speed signal; and a drive circuit 54 that allows the motor 7 to drive the carriage 2 on the basis of a signal in which the output signal of the periodic signal modulation part 66 is synthesized with a control signal of controlling the driving of the carriage 2.
