Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce the frequency of ink ribbon replacement and improve usability and provide good print quality by checking the RGB component values of neighboring pixels and, on the basis of the comparison of the component values of the two neighboring pixels, determining whether the pixels are in a spot-color print region or in a full-color print region.
CONSTITUTION: There is a possibility that the recording data of a full-color print region may contain the same RGB component values as values stored by a spot-color RGB table 84. Therefore, part of the full-color print region may be recognized as a spot-color printed region and accordingly printed as a spot-color printed region. To avoid this failure, a host computer HC is provided with determining means 85. Upon detection of a pixel having the same component value as any of the component values stored in the RGB table 84, the determining means 85 checks the RGB component value of a pixel adjacent to that pixel. The determining means 85 determines that the pixels are in a spot-color print region, if they have the same value, and that the pixels are in a full-color print region, if they have different values.
