To appropriately satisfy demands for high image quality and high productivity and to enable highly reliable printing by setting the number of recording paths and the head-platen distance, which are optimal, in accordance with contents of the images to be printed and demands of a user (for example, to importance on quality or to put importance on the speed).
In a recording device, it is selectable to execute or not to execute the process of giving an instruction for setting the number of recording paths and the head-platen distance in accordance with determination of the contents of the images. Then, when execution of the process is selected, the number of recording paths and the head-platen distance are appropriately set in accordance with the contents of the images (duties, etc.). On the other hand, when it is not selected, one-path recording is carried out regardless of the contents of the images, and a comparatively wide head-platen distance is set.
