PURPOSE: To effectively utilize a negative pressure generation means, to always obtain a strong sucking action and to stably carry a recording material by making suction force act on the recording material from a carrying belt side within a range suitable for the size of the recording material.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with the perforated carrying belt 1 carrying the recording material by placing it on the upper surface, a suction device 4 disposed on a side opposite the recording material with respect to the belt 1 and provided with plural openings in the width direction of the recording material on the side faced to the belt 1 and an opening and closing belt 5 which is disposed between the belt 1 and the surface of the opening side of the suction device 4 and selectively matched with one or plural openings of the suction device 4 and which imparts negative pressure generated by the suction device 4 to the recording material on the belt 1. By opening and closing the openings of the suction device 4 according to the size of the recording material, the negative pressure is prevented from being applied to the part of the belt where a transfer material does not exist. Then, the recording material is always stably and surely carried.
