To make a movement roller in an evacuation state without waiting for the movement roller to stop fluctuating after a recording material passes through a pair of rollers, and without increasing an output of a driving source.
A recording material conveyance device sandwiches a recording material with a pair of rollers 40, and conveys it to a conveyance destination. A movement roller 42 constituting the pair of rollers takes a pressure-contact state where the movement roller 42 is pressure-contacted to a fixation roller 41, and an evacuation state where it is evacuated from the pressure contact state. The recording material conveyance device comprises: a coil spring 47 for pressing the movement roller in a first direction for changing the state of the movement roller from the evacuation state to the pressure-contact state; a fluctuation arm motor 48 for moving the movement roller resisting the pressure; a distance sensor 50 for detecting a fluctuation state of the movement roller; and a drive control part for controlling the fluctuation arm motor so as to make the movement roller in the evacuation state after the recording material has passed through the pair of rollers. The drive control part starts a drive of the fluctuation arm motor when the movement roller moves in a second direction.
