Abstract:

To provide a recording material for a medium, which enables information to be recorded and reproduced with high density and performance at a level sufficiently suitable for practical use, by using short-wavelength laser light such as blue laser light.

This recording material for the medium is used for a recording film of a write-once and read-many-times information recording disk 28 equipped with a transparent resin substrate 20 wherein a concentric or spiral groove 21 is formed, and the recording film 24 which is formed on the groove. Characteristically, the recording material for the medium is formed of one organic dye which has an anion part and a dye part, and wherein a maximum absorption wavelength area exists on the side of a longer-wavelength than the wavelength of the short-wavelength laser light applied to the recording film; and a recording mark, which is formed on the recording film by the application of the short-wavelength laser light, has a higher light reflectance than that of the recording film before the application of the short-wavelength laser light. The recording material for the medium exhibits so-called low-to-high characteristics.
