PURPOSE: To receive update information transmitted from an information originating station and to automatically update storage information in a recording medium by providing the recording medium with a reception circuit, a buffer memory, a main memory and an access control circuit.

CONSTITUTION: While a card reader is reading information from the main memory 15, the access control circuit 16 controls the buffer memory 14 to temporarily store reception information by means of a reception circuit 11 in the buffer memory 14. Then, after finishing reading, the access control circuit 16 transfer-controls storage information from the buffer memory 14 to the main memory 15. Furthermore, in the state of inserting the recording medium (IC card) to the card reader in an automobile, update information is received by way of an internal antenna 13. On the other hand, in a state where the IC card is taken out from the card reader, update information is received by way of an external antenna connected to an antenna terminal 12. Consequently, newest information such as traffic jam information, bargain sale information of a shopping center, etc., can extremely easily be stored/updated to the IC card.
