PURPOSE: To provide the recording medium transporting device, recording medium transporting method and electrophotographic printer for both-side printing having a degree of freedom relating to printing procedures without taking an excessive space for primarily housing the recording medium under printing.
CONSTITUTION: This recording medium transporting device 70 has a main transporting path 71 for transporting the recording medium and a bypass transporting path 72 for inverting the recording medium and returning the recording medium to the main transporting path. This recording medium transporting method consists in turning the front side of the recording medium up by the main transporting path having a transporting means 1a freely rotatable forward and backward and transporting this recording medium, then turning over the recording medium by the bypass transporting path 72, returning the recording medium to the main transporting path 71, turning the rear side up and transporting the recording medium again to the main transporting path. This electrophotographic printer 1 has a photosensitive body 11, an exposing means for forming the electrostatic latent image based on printing information on this photosensitive body, a developing means 20 for developing the electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive body with toners to form a toner image, an intermediate transfer medium 30 held in pressurized contact with the photosensitive body and transferred with the toner image on the photosensitive body and a recording medium transporting device 70 for transporting the recording medium between this intermediate transfer medium 30 and a fixing roll 51 and can freely print both surfaces of the recording medium.
