PURPOSE: To prolong the lifetime, and to improve the reliability by forming a lubricant molecular layer, in which molecular terminals are fixed onto the surface of the protective film of a substrate.
CONSTITUTION: A chromium foundation film 2, a cobalt-nickel magnetic film 3 and an amorphous carbon film 4 are formed successively on a disk substrate 1 of Al plates with nickel-phosphorus, and a lubricant molecular layer 5, in which molecular terminals are fixed onto the surface of a protective film, is laminated on the film 4. The layer 5 is formed directly by surface polymerization on the surface of the protective film, and the molecular terminals of the lubricant are fixed to an extremely thin oxide film on the surface of the protective film. Accordingly, sliding-resistant characteristics to the head of a recording medium can be kept for a long term.
