PURPOSE: To provide a method for imparting luster ensuring favorable folding resistance and blocking resistance and excellent transferrability, to an image obtained by ink jet record ing, by a method wherein an image is recorded on a recording material, a transfer material comprising a butyral resin supported on a base is laminated on the recorded surface and adhered to the recorded surface under pressure, and the base is separated to leave the transfer material on the recording material.
CONSTITUTION: A print protective member 122 comprises a transfer material 202 releasably provided on the surface of a base 201. The base 201 is a paper, a cloth, a plastic film or the like, and a treating agent for imparting releasability such as a silicone resin is applied to the surface of the base 201. The transfer material 202 is constituted mainly of a butyral resin having an average polymerization degree of 150W900 and a degree of conversion to butyral of not less than 60. A recorded recording paper 102 is gripped by a roller pair 127 in the condition wherein the protective member 122 supplied from a cassette 121 is laid on the recorded surface and the paper 102 and the member 122 are adhered to each other under heat and pressure applied by a pressure roller pair 128 incorporating heaters 129. The paper 102 is passed through a discharging roller pair 132, collides against a separating pawl 134, and the base 201 of the member 122 is separated from the recording paper 102 which has the material 202 transferred thereon.
