PURPOSE: To perform high-density recording by performing conversion in accordance with a conversion rule in such a way that at least two bits "0" are inserted between bits "1" of a conversion code.
CONSTITUTION: When the 8th bit of the output of an 8-bit register 6 and the 1st and 2nd bits of the output of an encoder 5 are "01", a "101" detecting circuit 8 detects that and then changes the 1st and 2nd bits of the input to the register 6 into "10" and the 8th bit of the output of the register 6 into "0". As a result, an 8-bit shift register 9 outputs a converted code sequence in accordance with the modulation algorithm for converting a 4-bit information signal into an 8-bit converted code. This code sequence is inputted to an FF10, which outputs a desired modulated waveform. Thus, high-density recording is performed.
