To provide a recording system for an atheletic competition that records times of individual atheletes besides video.
A predetermined number of detection devices 11 are arranged on a track or a course. When any detection device 11 detects the passage of an athelete passing over it, it supplies a detection signal and an area number to a signal processing device 12. The signal processing device 12 acquires a lapse time from a timer 13, identifies the passage area, and supplies the lapse time and passage area to a character generator 15. The character generator 15 composites character information on the lapse time and passage area with video of the athelete imaged by an imaging device 14, and supplies the video to a video recording device 16. The video recording device 16 records the video.
