PURPOSE: To easily and efficiently separate and recover platinum group metal from a base body made of metal oxide by mixing the specified amount of KCl with the recovery contg. both platinum group metal and the base body made of metal oxide and allowing gaseous chlorine to flow while heating the mixture at the specified temp. and changing platinum group metal into the chloride and volatilizing this chloride.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of recovering platinum group metal from the recovery of a catalyst which is carried with platinum group metal and/or oxide thereof on a base body (alumina and silica, etc.), made of metal oxide, 0.5-10wt.% KCl, NaCl or CaCl2 is mixed with this recovery. Then gaseous chlorine is allowed to flow while heating this recovery in a range within 600-1200°C and platinum group metal and/or oxide thereof is changed into the chloride. This chloride is volatilized and platinum group metal is separated from the base body made of metal oxide. Thereby platinum group metal is efficiently and easily recovered in a short time.
