Abstract:

PURPOSE: To selectively separate ammonia by bringing ammonia-contg. gas into contact with one side of a complex membrane in which a porous support being coated with a thin layer of a cation exchange polymer having a sulfonic acid ion exchange group.

CONSTITUTION: A soln. of a cation exchange type polymer contg. a sulfonic ion exchange group expressed by the formula I (A, B, D and E denote each arylene group, R and R' denote each 1-4C alkyl group or halogenated alkyl group, b denotes an average molecular weight of ≥10000, c, d and e denote each an integer of 0-6, -Sn denotes a sulfonation degree of 0.2-2) in polymer molecules in an org. solvent is prepared. The soln. of the polymer in the org. solvent is applied on a porous material and dried to form a thin layer, thereby obtain a gas separating complex membrane is obtained. An ammonia-contg. mixed gas is brought into contact with one side of the complex membrane, to separate ammonia and recover permeates and residual components.
