Abstract:

To provide the methods for separating and purifying carbon material that comprises the removal of resol resin or novolak resins from the carbon material without damage to the carbon material at a low temperature efficiently without occurrence of injurious or harmful substance on the outside of the system and provide the purification of the carbon material.

A carbon material-containing resin of crushed resol resin or novolak resin is allowed to react in a basic organic solvent of ≥0.5 M of alkali concentration and contains 20 to 100 vol.% of water at 300-400°C in the reactor to remove the resol resin or novolak resin component from the carbon material. Then, the carbon material is washed and purified whereby the carbon material is recovered from the carbon material-containing resin.
