PURPOSE: To improve wiping performance for cleaning the discharge orifice- forming surface of an ink jet head.
CONSTITUTION: An ink absorbent 26 is provided in a cap 25 so that the absorbent 26 is counter-positioned in close proximity to a discharge orifice forming surface at a specified interval between them, if the cap is set in place. Consequently, large ink droplets or water droplets which attach to the discharge orifice forming surface by ink mist or condensate, are absorbed, if the cap is set in place, and then the wiping is performed. This wiping is to wipe off comparatively fine ink droplets, so that no trouble such as scattering occurs. In addition, as the amount of ink droplets which attach to the discharge orifice- forming surface is small, said surface of a head 5 can be cleaned.
