PURPOSE: To provide a method for recycling timber chip in which foreign matter mixed in the chip can be efficiently removed by a drying method.

CONSTITUTION: Timber chip in which foreign matter of smaller size is removed by a vibrating sieve having an area of sieve holes of 1 to 100mm2 is supplied to a specific weight sorter having an inclined deck 6 which is perforated with many air holes 2 at a low wall surface 1 and has an outlet 5 with a switching mechanism capable of discharging a foreign matter 4 having larger specific weight than that of the chip 3 to discharge the matter 4 having the larger specific weight by vibration, to float the chip 3 by an air flow (a) from the holes 2 to feed it downward. A method for recycling the chip comprises the steps of supplying it to a metal detector having a discharge mechanism and removing the detected metals.
