To obtain the subject new compound enabling immunoassay in high specificity and sensitivity through efficiently competing with a cortisol-like steroid with aiming at binding to an anti-cortisol antibody and exhibiting low cross reactivity.
This new compound is e.g. a compound of formula I (X1 is a (un)labeled natural or synthetic polymer or the like, pref. bovine serum albumin; Y1 is a coupled group or the like; E1 and E2 are each H or being joined together into a single bond). The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II (X is O, S or the like) with a reducing agent (pref. a borohydride salt). To conduct a competitive assay for cortisol using a compound of formula I, for example, first, a sample suspected of containing cortisol therein is contacted with an immobilized receptor or the like capable of binding cortisol thereto; subsequently, the sample is contacted with the compound of formula I to determine the cortisol in the sample, thereby detecting the compound of formula I bound to the above receptor.
