PURPOSE: To perform economical atmospheric operation of an engine at an ordinary place, switch the engine to regenerative cycle operation in a tunnel or the like and reduce discharge of harmful exhaust from the engine, by optionally selecting the atmospheric and regenerative cycle operations.
CONSTITUTION: In case of atmospheric operation, an oxygen flow rate control valve 5 and gate valve 11 are closed and an intake valve 12 and exhaust valve 13 are opened. The atmospheric air is sucked from the intake valve 12 and fed to an engine 1. Exhaust gas is cooled by an exhaust gas cooler 7 with directly jetted cooling water, and vapor in the liquefied exhaust gas is separately discharged by a water separator 9. In case of regenerative cycle operation, the intake valve 12 is closed, and the oxygen flow rate control valve 5 and the gate valve 11 are opened. Oxygen of prescribed concentration is fed to circulating exhaust gas by an oxygen mixer, heated by an intake air heater 14, fed to the engine 1 and completely burnt. The exhaust gas is cooled to remove its water, then a surplus amount is released from a pressure regulator valve 6.
