PURPOSE: To minimize the heat loss due to the open air by cutting off the open air using a cutting-off gas curtain formed by recycling cooling medium gas subjected to heat recovery.
CONSTITUTION: An inlet gas curtain 6 of a cooler 3 is provided between a feed.precooling device 2 and the cooler 3 while an outlet gas curtain 7 of the cooler 3 is provided between the cooler 3 and a low temp. crusher 4. The exhaust cooling medium gas diffused from a blower 13 through the cyclone 11 and bag filter 12 of an exhaust system is recycled as a cooling medium introducing system 10. The cooler 3 is perfectly cut off from the open air by the gas curtains 6,7 to cool iron scrap in a perfectly sealed state to supply the same to the low temp. crusher 4. The cooling medium can be effectively introduced into the feed.precooling device 2 and low temp. crusher 4 communicating with the front and rear parts of the cooler 3 and the heat thereof can be recycled.
