PURPOSE: To obtain the sufficient reduction effect of an image by contacting an image to be reduced with a solvent which does not dissolve the photosensitive resinous layer, but dissolve an active ray absorbent contd. in said photosensitive resinous layer, after etching only the metallic thin layer in a transverse direction.
CONSTITUTION: When a non-silver salt process film 10 formed the images 5, 5,... thereon is effected to the reduction treatment, said film 10 contacts with the etching solution which does not dissolve the photosensitive resinous layer 3 but dissolves the metallic thin film 2 to effect the etching of only the metallic thin film 2 in the transverse direction. The metallic thin layer 2 constituting a part of the image 5 makes to the prescribed size, and then said layer 2 contacts with the solvent which does not dissolve the photosensitive resin layer 3 and the metallic thin layer 2, but dissolve the active ray absorber contd. in the photosensitive resinous layer 3 to elute said active ray absorber from said photosensitive resinous layer 3. Thus, as the obtd. photosensitive layer almost lost a shading property, when the image is printed on a PS plate or another photoengraving film, said image is printed as it is, and the reduction effect of the image is remarkably improved.
