Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a so called 'fishy smell' due to a lower amine- based compound generated from a cation-modified polyvinyl alcohol. SOLUTION: This method for reducing a smell of a cation-modified polyvinyl alcohol obtained by adding sodium hydroxide into a methanol solution of a polyvinyl acetate having cationic groups in molecule thereof for saponification thereof, is to make the content of sodium acetate in the cation modified polyvinyl alcohol by <=0.5 wt.% in the drying process of the cation modified polyvinyl alcohol.
