The end parts 92 of flappers 62 and 64 are housed in the base parts 72 of pockets 58 and 60, the extended parts 90 of the flappers 62 and 64 are housed in the extended parts 70 of the pockets 58 and 60, and the extended parts 90 of the flappers 62 and 64 are extended upward. The base parts 92 of the flappers 62 and 64 are bound in the base parts 72 of the pockets 58 and 60 located between a valve plate 20 and the other components of a pump, to which the valve plate 20 is attached. The flappers 62 and 64 have surfaces substantially uniform with the surface of the valve plate 20 surrounding the pockets 58 and 60. Thus, since the flappers 62 and 64 are housed in the valve plate 20 and the pockets 58 and 60, no fastening tools, i.e., no screws, are necessary.
