PURPOSE: To improve ion exchange efficiency by passing a solution of specific gravity and viscosity higher than those of water while forming a dense layer part of ≥80% with an ion exchange tower having a backwashing space of ≥75% height of the resin layer.
CONSTITUTION: In an ion exchange tower having a backwashing space X of ≥75% the height Y of a stationary resin layer, liquid having specific gravity and/or viscosity higher than those of water is passed upward through the tower in a manner that the layer height of the dense layer part 3 with respect to the sum of the layer height of the dense layer part 3 and the layer height of a fluidized layer part 4 attains ≥80%, whereby the highly refined ion exchange resin treating liquid is obtained without lowering ion exchange efficiency. It is adequate that the ratio of X/Y is 100W120%, and the layer height of the fluidized layer part 4 of the dense layer part 3 is ≥90%. Thereby a once-through exchange capacity is obtained and the volume of water for backwashing and the time required for backwashing at the regeneration is considerably decreased.
