Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device(LCD) which is free from a visual direction to make a display state incorrect with simple constitution and has high image quality by forming reflection electrodes to a rugged shape and including forward scattering components and backward scattering components into light scattering liquid crystals.
SOLUTION: The surface of the reflection electrodes 102 is provided with the rugged shape to impart a specified degree of backward scatterability to the light scattering liquid crystals 103. The reflection characteristic at the on-time of voltage corresponding to a black level is, therefore, degraded in a specular characteristic and the reflection characteristic in the off-state of the voltage corresponding to a white level is not exceeded at any observation angle. The reason thereof lies in that the scatterability at the reflection surface is increased by the reflection electrodes 102 of the rugged shape and the total reflection component at the boundary between a transparent substrate 104 and air is increased, by which the light emitted from a liquid crystal panel is decreased. On the other hand, the reflection characteristic corresponding to the white level imparts the backward scatterability to the light scattering liquid crystals, by which the quantity of the light directly bulk scattered and reflected from the light scattering liquid crystal layer is increased and the degradation in the intensity of the external exit light by the reflection electrodes 102 of the rugged shape is suppressed. The bright display is thus obtd.
