To provide reflection type color filters having sufficient resolving power, good reflectivity and a perpendicular cross-sectional shape as the reflection type color filters utilizing UV curing cholesteric liquid crystals, etc., and a process for producing the same and a liquid crystal display device.
The surface of a substrate 1 is provided with pattern-like recessed parts 4 and the entire surface of the substrate is provided with a light absorption layer 5. These pattern-like recessed parts are provided with a UV curing cholesteric liquid crystal layer 10. The patterns of reflection layers are formed by providing the surface of the substrate 1 with the pattern-like recessed parts 4, providing the surface of the substrate with light absorption layers 5, aligning and packing the UV curing cholesteric liquid crystals therein to form the reflection layers 10, disposing a film 6, heating the substrate, selecting the reflection wavelengths of the reflection layers, exposing patterns and fixing the reflection wavelength. The liquid crystal display device using the reflection type color filters is obtd.
