To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device of an interference multi-layer system having a sufficient white level without increasing the number of layers of an interference multi-layer film by laminatedly providing a combination among glass substrate/multi-layer part/light transmission layer related to at least two colors on the same position on a display device plane.
This device is provided with three liquid crystal layer films 11, 21, 31 corresponding to respective colors R, G, B and three interference multi-layer films 10, 20, 30 corresponding to respective liquid crystal layers, and they are inserted between two glass substrates 1, 35, and the combinations between the liquid crystal layers 11, 21, 31 and the interference multi-layer films 10, 20, 30 related to respective colors are separated by other two glass substrates 15, 25. Further, a multi-layer film part is constituted of at least two kinds of dielectric layers, and a difference Δn between respective first, second refractive indexes related to first dielectric layer and second dielectric layer is desirable to be Δn>1.2. By such a constitution, the device having the sufficient white level and keeping high color purity is provided without increasing the number of layers of the interference multi-layer film.
