To provide a reflection type liquid crystal projector which has a projection auto-focus function using a reflection type liquid crystal and a liquid crystal lens and can be incorporated in a cellular phone, etc.

The reflection type liquid crystal projector is configured such that light beams emitted from a green LED 10, a blue LED 11 and a red LED 12 are converged by an illumination lens group 9, are reflected by a PBS prism 6 and then projected on a reflection type liquid crystal panel 7, and are reflected again, to pass through a semi-transmission part, a projection lens group 5 in a projection module and the liquid crystal lens 4 and project an image on a screen 34. The projection type liquid crystal projector is configured such that the liquid crystal lens is electrically controlled based on the result of measuring a distance between a variable focus liquid crystal lens and the screen by an automatic focusing device 3, to project a focused image on the screen. The liquid crystal lens is arranged at the top of the projection lens group. The module unit is integrally arranged in the housing of a compact electronic apparatus such as the cellular phone.
