To provide a reflection type polarizing plate which yields a bright reflection display and excellent visibility, and prevents metal reflecting layer corrosion when applied to a reflection type liquid crystal display device and to apply the polarizing plate to the reflection type liquid crystal display device.
The reflection type polarizing plate 10 is equipped with: a reflecting plate 1 which has a slating surface 1a formed by arraying prisms adjacently along ridges and also has a metal layer formed on the slanting surface 1a of a base material having a saw-tooth shape wherein triangles formed of the prisms are disposed in line in the cross section perpendicular to the ridges of the prisms; an adhesive layer 2 provided on the top surface of the metal layer; and a polarizing layer 3 arranged on the side of the adhesive layer 2. A hardened coating layer 5 is formed on the contact surface between the polarizing layer 3 and adhesive 2. This reflection type polarizing plate 10 has a liquid crystal cell 12 arranged on the side of the polarizing layer 3 to constitute the reflection type liquid crystal display device. When the reflecting plate 1 has light transmittance, a semi-transmissive and reflective type liquid crystal display device can be obtained by arranging a back light 16 on the back side.
