To provide a reflector capable of widening the visual angle characteristic of the intensity of reflected light and increasing the intensity of the reflected light to be higher in a direction where a reflection angle is small than in regular reflection, and to provide a liquid crystal display device capable of widening a visual angle range where display is brightly viewed and increasing visibility when the display is observed from a direction near to a normal direction to its display surface.
In the reflector 47, a plurality of large-diameter recessed parts 70 having light reflecting property are formed at irregular pitches on the surface of metal film formed on base material, and a plurality of small-diameter recessed parts 60 having a smaller diameter than that of the recessed part 70 are formed between the recessed parts 70 and 70. The inner surface of the recessed part 70 has a curved surface being a part of a spherical or aspherical surface, and the inner surface of the recessed part 60 has a curved surface being a part of a spherical or aspherical surface. The metal film on the surface of which a plurality of recessed parts 70 and a plurality of recessed parts 60 are formed is formed so that the inclination of the cross-sectional curve of its longitudinal cross section is discontinuous on a boundary between the adjacent recessed parts. In the liquid crystal display device, the reflector 47 is internally or externally attached to a liquid crystal cell.
